GIVING BACK WITH PURPOSE

The Charlie Blizzard Foundation is a grassroots, heart-driven nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals who feel alone, unseen, or unsupported as they navigate mental health struggles, addiction, homelessness, or life transitions. We exist to turn compassion into action and ensure no one falls through the cracks.

This foundation was created in memory of Charlie Blizzard, whose life was full of hope, humor, creativity, and love — but who faced unimaginable battles with mental illness and addiction. Charlie’s story reflects not failure, but the failure of systems that could not hold him. His journey now fuels our mission to do better for others like him.

OUR MISSION

Founded in memory of Charlie Blizzard, our mission is to support individuals impacted by mental health challenges, addiction, housing instability, and social isolation. We connect vulnerable community members with vital resources, referrals, companionship, and financial assistance to promote stability and well-being. Through strategic partnerships, collaborative programs, and sustainable funding, we aim to reduce barriers, strengthen resilience, and ensure no individual is overlooked or left behind.

We envision a community where every person — regardless of their past, their pain, or their circumstances — is met with compassion, dignity, and a chance to rebuild. We see a future where no one is left alone in their struggle, where support grows through human connection, and where hope becomes a reality for all who have been overlooked, forgotten, or misunderstood.

FOUNDER’S STORY

The Charlie Blizzard Foundation was born from both deep heartbreak and deep love. Named in honor of Charlie Blizzard, a son, friend, and bright soul who battled severe mental illness and addiction, the foundation stands as a promise that his struggle — and others like him — will not be invisible. Charlie’s journey revealed the gaps that exist for individuals fighting their hardest battles with limited support, fractured systems, and overwhelming loneliness. His life continues to inspire a mission rooted in compassion, human connection, and the belief that no person should ever be left without hope, safety, or someone who cares. Through this foundation, Charlie’s legacy becomes a beacon — transforming loss into purpose, and pain into powerful change.

GERI-OLYMPICS

The Geri-Olypimcs has taken place since 1987, the Charlie Blizzard Foundation took over organizing this event in 2024 after the retirement of the creator of the event. This event takes place every spring in Kanawha County, WV at West Virginia Institute of Technology for regional nursing and assisted living facilities to get their residents active with a little friendly completion and games.
